Rob Regal - The Soul (Official Music Video)

One year. It's been a whole year since I've dropped any new visuals for y'all (not including "The Constant" with PHZ-Sicks and "Excel" with Osiris Green, of course - those were collabs). My apologies, but life has been real, to say the least. The good part is, for the latter half of 2015, the statement "life has been real" can be followed by the word "positive". Things are on the up-and-up. Money is being made. Music is being written. Inspiration is being found. The family is getting healthier and stronger. With that being the case...I'm slowly but surely making my way back to what I do best.
Earlier this year, I dropped a verse over Terrace Martin's instrumental version of Kendrick Lamar's "Ignorance Is Bliss", entitled "The Soul". At the time of writing it and recording it, I was still battling many demons I've since conquered, using the beat as my avenue to speak on personal turmoil I would've never had the courage to rap about a few years ago. With time comes growth, though. Enjoy the new video, directed by none other than the homie Matt Sugawara, and look out for more visuals coming soon. New project, Good Luck Road (formerly titled The Reflection) coming in 2016. For those of you that kept checking in and supporting while I went through my hardships, I appreciate y'all more than words can express. Feels good to be back...

BJR - PRISM

Ryan Leslie Protégé,  BJR is releasing his anticipated LP, “PRISM”. This album features the single "No Wonder", which is his take on the changing sound of R&B/Hip-Hop.

Better put, this compilation of music by the producer/artist is an opportunity for listeners to see his versatility.
The sounds of BJR are reminiscent of Frank Ocean (No Wonder) & Chris Brown (Pillow Talk); however he also
manages to pack in bassy, club pumping hip-hop on the project.

With different cadences in his vocal delivery, he is able to take a different approach on the beats that he created.

@kingpenslim @johnblu @DJJBUTTAH @DJWhooKid - "L.A.N." !!

Just in time for cuffing season, Northwest D.C. native Kingpen Slim decides to shed light on the ups, downs and in-betweens of relationships with his latest audio contribution, entitled "L.A.N." (Love A N*gga). The J. Buttah produced single features an impressive rework of Notorious B.I.G.'s Life After Death cut "Sky's The Limit" in addition to an A-1 hook compliments of Chi-Town singer/songwriter John Blu. Can anybody say Winter anthem?

2015 Jack'N for Beats RECAP @ Art Whino

 Pouring up the Jack!!!

Jadakiss Judging the Emcees

  Jack'N for Beats Emcees
The JACK'N for BEATS 5K WINNER OSIRIS GREEN

Event: Jack’N for Beats Finale
Date: Thursday November 5, 2015
Location: Blind Whino (Washington D.C.)

ForTheDMVOnly was on location to Thursday night in Washington D.C. to see 10 emcees verbally battle for $5,000 dollars.  The energy was high and the tension was thick as Jack Daniels and Jack’N for Beats set the stage for 10 artists to eliminate one another for the all mighty green. The emcees entering the battle for the bread are: Osiris Green, Rewrite, Cooley, ill Conscious, Dre Fury, Rome Fury, Niko, Hazzy, King Swish and T. Lucas.

Jack’N for Beats and Jack Daniels chose one of D.C.’s most creative locations for the battle, Blind Whino. The abstract and eclectic art soaked the walls of the once Friendship Baptist Church as patrons rolled in to witness the lyrical battle royal that was going to take place.

The vibe in the event was aesthetically good and it didn’t help that Jack Daniels had several stations set up to provide libations for party goers. Jack’N for Beats and their staff had all the parts of their marketing machines running on all cylinders. The show started on time and moved pretty fast through the 3 rounds. The Emcees had 2 minutes and various beats to showcase their lyrical ability as the crowd watched on. Unlike most rap battles, the winner of this battle didn’t depend on how many fan you brought with you. It solely depended on how sharp the emcees were lyrically.

There were also some performances throughout the event that provided the battling emcees with some time to regroup and recover. DC’s own Pinky KillaCorn took the stage to perform a few songs to expand on her ever-growing brand and reputation as being one of the DMV’s hottest artists.
Some emcees clearly wrestled with their voice inflection while others had difficulties keeping their rhymes flowing when the DJ changed the beats in mid bar. Like anything the cream always rises to the top and the emcee that clearly won every round was Osiris Green.

Osiris captivated the crowd out the gate during round one and didn’t let up off the other emcees as the rounds progressed. The crowd could not help but to show Osiris the love he demanded spitting sharp and audible lyrics.

The good folks of Jack’N for Beats, Jack Daniels and Art Whino put on a great event that provided an unforgettable opportunity and experience for the DMV hip hop scene.

[RECAP] Coors Light reFRESH with DJ Mustard and Fabolous

Event: Coors Light Soundtrack reFRESH
Date: Friday October 16, 2015
Location: Baltimore Sound Stage
ForTheDMVOnly took to the road to cover the Coors Light Soundtrack reFRESH in Baltimore Maryland. We didn’t quite know what to expect besides that the prolific hitmaker DJ Mustard was spinning some of his many hits that took over much of the airwaves in 2015 and that New York lyrical young OG Fabolous would be performing songs from his lengthy catalog. Pulling up to the event on the surprisingly warm Friday night you could see the line of hipsters, hip hop heads and corporate execs wrapped around the Baltimore block waiting for entry.
Upon entering the event, it was evident that Coors Light created its own urban hip hop world inside. From an array of Light-beams shooting across the venue to mobile real time photo stations set up around the venue. The Coors light reFRESH team even introduced event goers to a new technology I dubbed “Digital Spraypaint” station.
After about an hour of the house DJ playing jams, out came the host for the night, Baltimore native and Radio DJ, DJ Quicksilva. It didn’t stop there, Dj Quicksilva brought out his co-host Lil Mo. Their energy and cohesiveness was nothing new as they co-host Baltimore radio together. They kept the crowd upbeat and engaged as they awaited DJ Mustard’s set.

Coors Light DJ Collective member, DJ QuickSilva, performs at the Soundtrack reFRESH Baltimore finale.

Lil Mo hosts the Coors Light Soundtrack refresh finale at Baltimore Soundstage.

Dj Mustard hit the stage and got right into spinning his hit records. Mustard also blended in some of the most iconic hip hop records into his set to keep the crowds energy fresh and interested.

DJ Mustard spinning at Coors Light Soundtrack reFRESH at the Baltimore Sound Stage.

After a brief break following Mustard’s set, the man of the hour Fabolous hit the stage with his most recent street banger “Lituation”. Fab’s energy and movement around the stage commanded all eyes on him. He ran through some of his most recent records of his Young OG project and even took it all the way back to some of his hits off his platinum selling albums such as Street Dreams. Fabolous pulled Lil Mo on stage to perform “Can’t Let You Go” and the crowd went crazy. It was the perfect way to end a wonderful night of reFRESHed hip hop culture presented by Coors Light.

Refinement. Poetic Boom-Bap nuanced with fly elegance. For The Fly and Thee Enlightened. Born and raised in Hagerstown MD, in the middle of everything unexpected, one of the most lyrically inclined MC's that you've never heard of raises his flag. Elements of great  flicks (like the character of the kid from Fresh), layers of knowledge & literature, The 48 Laws of Power, The Alchemist, and every book ever written by Malcolm Gladwell all dwell within the soul of what seems to be the child hip-hop doesn't even know it birthed. This is how Wu t-shirts end up standing behind podiums and how Nas's army jacket from It Ain't Hard To Tell is found in business schools around America. How the hood gets introduced to that fly shit. HipHop Trio The Package are back as A.R.K. with their New Release

DMV hip-hop trio The Package is now known as  A.R.K. (Anthony, Richard, and Keeyon, the government names of group members: Dimensions [on rhymes], Theory [on beats] and Noyeek [on rhymes]). After garnering thousands of views with (Hot 97's own) Peter Rosenberg-directed video for "Making Waves" (the lead single from their last album "New Golden Era"), followed by Theory successfully placing beats on projects for emcees such as Dungeon Family's own Backbone (ATL), the A.R.K. has returned with their sophomore album "Trials, Tribulations, and Triumph", released August 2015.

"You were my lifeline/Never left/when I wasn't in my right mind" is the type of polysyllabic bar with emotional resonance and wordplay that exemplifies the level of lyricism present throughout this entire album. The production is equally potent throughout the record, including amazing chops of D'angelo's "How Does It Feel" ["Lady (remix)"] and The Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up" ["Don't Start"], along with interpolations of Paul McCartney's "Great Day" ["Mosaic"] and a range of other beats crafted on Theory's vintage instrument collection.

Besides the eleven A.R.K.-only records representing the bulk of the project, the album features three collaborative cuts: "Frontlines" featuring Rhymesayers affiliate Quadir Lateef, Beat Konductaz' own L-Betta, and Dimensions' teenaged son Infinite, in addition to two posse cuts with The A.R.K.'s old crew, veteran DC hip-hop collective Infinite Loop [the aforementioned "Don't Start" and "Fall Back"].

Baltimore emcee UllNevaNo and Manhattan Kansas producer [w] have released a few singles such as as the conceptual "Press Run", and the infamous posse cut "MGNTK" with Logic Marselis and Illien Rosewell.  The duo finally gives the masses Adventure Rhyme, bringing listeners on a sound wave of adventures from joints like the imaginative "Catching Z's" where Neva is dreaming, and "Thank you Cali" where Neva pays homage over [w] soulful loops sharing his last year experience of when he was on tour in LA.  There is also cuts from DJ illMEASURED on "Undeniable", and random instrumentals in between songs. UllNevaNo shows that he can make good records with any producer he works with being that this whole project was created similar to his "Instant Messengers" EP with Logic Marselis via email.  Adventure Rhyme shows that Neva and [w] have great chemistry from the beat choices to an overall a solid standout project.

@330_music -

Since the arrival of the 2010 mixtape, Sorry I’m Late, 330 has become one of the most sought out female hip hop artists to date. The Harrisburg, PA native now DC based emcee, began her hip hop career in the dorm rooms of Howard University. Freestyles, ciphers and writing rhymes became her passion, though she continued her education at George Washington University, graduating with a law degree. Heavily influenced by culture and travel, a semester in France introduced 330 to the beauty and variety of language and cadence. “We would have crazy cyphers in French, English and Wolof. That definitely influenced me. When they rapped in Wolof, they had constant flow. It was amazing. I try to incorporate that.” This artistic layering is what makes 330 a force to be reckon with on the mic and many noteworthy figures in hip hop have taken notice. "I don’t want to be a preacher, I want to make it fun. I want my listeners to think about how ridiculous we sometimes are and how powerful we always have been. Then I gotta find the right beat to match."

Noah-O x Kleph Dollaz "Put Em On" (Big L tribute)

Breakthrough Richmond MC Noah-O is has released a visual for his tribute track to the Harlem legend Big L. The song “Put Em On” is produced by the Richmond hip hop pioneer Kleph Dollaz (Ill Biskitz) who passed away in 2012. Noah held the project for several years in order to make sure the final EP paid the proper homage to Kleph’s memory. “Put Em On” shows Noah’s love for hip hop culture, his family, and his Charged Up Ent. crew. The video is directed by Soul Live Media with creative assistance from the emerging Virginia brand The Cheats Movement.

"Under Kleph's guidance I was able to find my voice as an artist. He saw something special in me and with his guidance I was able to unlock new stories and imagery that were undiscovered. Kleph created All Souled Out to pay homage to Pete Rock & CL Smooth who dropped an album under the same name. He handled the production and I rhymed. This album really paved the way for everything I’m doing now.” – Noah-O

DC Has Risen: "DC Rising" at AFROPUNK Festival 2015

DC Has Risen:
"This past weekend Brooklyn's own Commodore Barry Park hosted the 2015 AFROPUNK Festival . The borough was the epicenter of the diverse subcultures of the Afro-Diaspora. It became the meeting grounds where artists, activists, and a multitude of others came to play, protest, and party together. Moving through the crowds effortlessly, you soon realized this was one of the last of the few places where black men, women, boys and girls could let their guards down, be completely carefree, just be themselves in whatever way they wanted to be. This annual festival attracted thousands of people from all backgrounds who were pierced, tattooed, braided, apologetically black and proud."
