Benefit Concert this weekend (October 1, 2011) featuring DMV artists - Very Important!!!
I know we all get a lot of fliers, e-mail, text messages, Facebook messages, etc, about various shows and events. I know I also send you information sometimes that you may not really be interested in. But this event is very important. "The World Away" Benefit Concert will be held this Saturday to help the citizens of Nanjemoy, Maryland. Nanjemoy is a community in Charles County where some residents don't have running water or indoor plumbing. The "powers-that-be" in Charles County have turned a blind eye towards this situation, mainly because the people who are affected don't vote and therefore have little political influence. Please take a few moments to open the enclosed link and read the story.

Young Sir - Rollin (Music Video)
BIO:
Lyrically known as "Young Sir", Taj Jamal Diggs was born June 1990, in Baltimore, MD but his family eventually relocated to the DMV. Young Sir graduated from high school in 2008 and is presently a college student with a focus in journalism. Since childhood, Young Sir has been commanded on his ability to write. From as early age he has had a desire to express himself and that his voice be heard.
Raised in an environment where respectfulness and good manners were strongly encouraged, he was certain to address adults as "Sir" or "Ma'am". Because this was a rare practice amongst his peers, it earned him the moniker "Young Sir".
The music gene did not bypass Young Sir who was introduced to most, if not all, musical genes by his grandmother, a music teacher/choir director/pianist/harpist. Consequently, Young Sir developed a keen ear for music. He taught himself to play the piano at only 6 years old.
Entering DuVal High School in 2004, Young Sir became and remained throughout his high school tenure, a member of the school's band and marching band where he perfected the drums. "We thought how perfect his choice of instrument," says Young Sir's mother, "since it was noted early on that he marches to the beat of his own drum." It was through the band that he acquired the "bug" to perform for large audiences, performing at games, city concerts and local parades.
Young Sir joined a music production club in high school that taught the fundamentals of all aspects of the music industry including performing. A group of lyricists emerged in the club and were dubbed "Da Beat Club" of which Young Sir was an acclaimed artist. It was through "Da Beat Club" that Young Sir received local recognition and exposure on radio, cds, and tours.
In 2007, Tru Identity, a newly formed go-go band comprised of 7 young and talented musicians tapped Young Sir to infuse a hip hop flavor to their go-go sound. Then in 2008, with a growing fan base and reputation Young Sir decided to begin his solo quest as a hip hop artist. He is noted for his incredible freestyle ability, creative lyricism, and edgy flair. His talent and drive has led him to perform all throughout the DMV. Look for big things to come from Young S.

Wrighteous - "Here I Am"
http://hulkshare.com/amnvv86x9oaf
My name is Tyler Wright, also known as Wrighteous. I'm an artist from Stafford, Virginia and currently residing in Norfolk, VA for school. Honestly, I'm just a 20 year old kid who loves to tell his story, thoughts, opinions, and dreams through music. My sound, if you had to describe it, is honest expression. However the music makes me feel, that is how I approach writing and recording. I try to cover every spectrum of emotion: happiness, depression, rage, confusion, mellow, etc. I like to make music that is relatable to as many different types of people as humanly possible. I want my listeners to have fun at times, and I want them to truly think about what it is I'm saying at other times. In my eyes, everyone has a story to tell. I am just telling mine in a way that anyone will be able to understand and hopefully enjoy. I'm inspired by Lupe, Kanye, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, etc.
I'm currently working on my debut album entitled Live & Learn, which is scheduled to drop in 2012. While I work on that, I'm in the middle of a weekly series, #Wrighteous Wednesdays. The most recent release is "Here I Am" produced by TaeBeast. I've also included last week's song, "Stars Cross" feat. J2, produced by Supr Dope Beats.

In light of the Howard vs. Morehouse Nation's Classic and requests by people who like the mixtape series, I put out Pre-Game V13. A trunk rattling/party mixtape with the hottest music leading up to the week of the nations classic. Had to show support for DMV artists by having Phil Ade, Fat Trel, Yung B, and Wale on the mixtape as well as the artist who have been killing the airwaves in ATL as well. Shoutout to Ari Piven of PatchWork who blessed me with the mixtape cover and D.Wright of Bravata Blog who was instrumental in the creative process of the cover.
