Something from Andari

The face of the Nations Capitol

As we all know that they have been some substantial changes to that face of DC. With all the gentrification and the moving and shuffling of its occupants the murder rate in DC has indeed dropped. Simultaneously the murder rate in PG county has been upped almost 100 % in recent years to like 190 murders for last year .

I was watching “Pay” the New York documentary about DC drug kingpin  “Rayful Edmound “and I was drawn back in time almost instantly. Not because of a wanton for murder and mayhem but because as I looked in the backdrop of many of the scenes I saw OLD DC. One scene in particular really got my attention …it was shot of Pennsylvania avenue circa 87-90. What I saw was a complete 180 from what you see now when you go towards the capitol. Then a question came to me……it was as if George bush wanted to use the “crack era” as an excuse to remove certain groups from DC populace. Surely the first majority black city in American history was not the reason for the crack surge that took control of the nation’s capitol and America…Surely DC was not the only place in America were you could drugs in any part of the city….surely DC was not host to creation of these drugs…so why was their such a focus on what was going on at that time?

POLITICS

DC was the first majority black city on the east coast becoming so in the early part of the 1950’s how could this be ?...the nation’s capitol is by large Black?.....in the 1950’s. I believe the government was not going to allow this type of face for the nation’s capitol. Although this was becoming a problem, because of the racial instability, the government had other issues to handle. After the riots drugs became the main focus but not an issue because it was tearing apart the moral fiber of every black community in every city in America. That was the answer to their problem……..let them destroy themselves……however the issue went into epidemic proportions…and now drugs were a “problem”….especially in the first primarily black city in history. Drug laws are stiffened and seemingly the only “ones” affected where those that dealt with the cheaper hardened form of cocaine “crack” and not for the powder, which was usually dealt at higher levels and by a variety of nationalities. Over the next 10-15 years crews were busted and given ridiculous sentencing for relatively small amounts of crack. After which neighborhoods were seized  or bought out. An easy task for the government as DC residents cannot own their own land in most cases…..DC is not a state …it is a district …so Virginia owns land in DC. Resident can own their house…BUT NOT THE LAND THAT IT SITS ON. Residents tired of being profiled for years or dealing with “conveniently un-policed areas” are more than willing to sell their homes, and of course public housing is easy to steal.  Which of course results in those very high priced condos that you see all over the city. Which brings me to this……if it was that easy to do for someone else, so that they are safer and can have property in the city that isn’t run down of dilapidated….then why not for the populace that was already there.

I don’t know how anyone else feels about this but as a DC resident now, a metropolitan area resident my entire life it disgusts me to see such a travesty. But then again…remember the native Americans?

Just a thought  man……………..just a thought.

Artist vs Rappers vs Dick Riders

So I heard a part of this new Jay-Z song "No Auto-Tunes" and I started to think a lot of people are mad Jay is still in the game but you can't be mad at him especially when he's coming with a CREAT and LONG OVERDUE record. Then I also started Þo think why NO New or Up and COMING artist think of this song? Probably because a lot of you artist RAN out and started using AUTO TUNE in your songs trying to MAKE hits. This is just a small EXAMPLE of WHY dude is one of the GREATEST. Creativy and not being SCARED to go against the norm. So look here WHEN the song comes out A MILLION people gonna take the BEAT and redo it preaching their hate for AUTO-TUNE. A bunch of DICK RIDeRS is what yall ARE! This is what clearly set some ARTIST apart from just RAPPERs. GET CREATIVE and goooo against the norm! This couldve BEEN your HIT record.

SO I READ ALL THE COMMENTS AND MY ENTIRE POINT WAS NOT TO SAY JAY SHOULD RETIRE BUT MY POINT WAS THAT ONE OF YOU UP AND COMING ARTIST COULDVE BEEN BRAVE ENOUGH AND CREATIVE ENOUGH TO DO A SONG LIKE IT AND NOT LET SOME 40 YEAR RAPPER THINK OF IT FIRST. OH AND WATCH AFTER THE SONG COMES OUT WATCH HOW MANY SONGS DONT HAVE AUTO TUNE.  TPAIN WILL PROBABLY STILL DO IT BUT NEW CATS..... NEGATIVE WHAT JAY SAYS GOES TO YOU NO BRAIN YIGGERS

Fort Washington Double Murder may be Linked to the Murder of a local Artist/Producer

From my understaning the homie killed performs at Pure on Mondays. This story is F'ed UP! Seriously

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (WUSA) -- The murder of a couple in their home early Tuesday may be linked to a fatal shooting about a half-hour before
at a nightclub in DC,according to Prince George's County police.

Keith Jordan, 44, and his fiance, 48-year-old Audrey Bryant, were shot during a confrontation inside Bryant's home in the 4000 block of Oaklawn Road in Fort Washington, just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Jordan called 911 for help and died at a hospital later. Bryant was found dead in a bedroom.

Three of Bryant's four adult sons produce music in her home, according to a relative.

The shooting came about 35 minutes after a man was shot multiple times in an incident about a block from Club Pure in the 1300 block of U Street Northwest. The victim, found in the 1300 block of T Street
Northwest, has been identified as Carl Ashton O'Neil Gray Fitzgerald, according to Metropolitan Police.

At least one of Bryant's sons was performing at Club Pure before the violence began.

Prince George's County Police Chief Roberto Hylton called the double murder in Fort Washington an apparent "targeted assassination", at a
press conference Tuesday. However, he said detectives have not determined whether Jordan and Bryant were the intended victims.

Hylton said it appears more than one weapon was used in the Prince George's County attack, and that there was more than one assailant.

Roc Nation x wale Stuff

Washington, D.C. rapper Wale announced his affiliation with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label in a live performance video clip that recently surfaced on the net- leaving many fans confused as to the XXL freshman’s allegiance. XXLMag.com spoke to Wale’s manager, Daniel Weisman, to explain the deal.

According to Weisman, Wale is still signed to Mark Ronson’s imprint Allido on Interscope Records but now, along with his company Elitaste,Inc., he will also be co-managed by Roc Nation.

“[It] just sort of happened organically,” Weisman said of the new partnership. “Wale went on tour with Jay-Z last summer and got to know the Roc Nation people – [he] went on tour with Mark Ronson, who was opening for Jay-Z in the U.K. Got to know [Jay] and it just seemed like a good move for him to do that.”

Jay has several names attached to his Roc Nation imprint, a reported $150 million deal he brokered with Live Nation last year. He has signed up-and-coming North Carolina MC J. Cole, and is in talks with former Roc-A-Fella rapper Young Chris. HitsDailyDouble.com reports that Roc Nation has already signed up a sizable roster of emerging producers and songwriters as well.

As for Wale, Weisman says that his debut is done and is expected to hit stores this summer. The album will also feature cameos from Lady Gaga - who is on his lead single “Chillin” -  Bun B, Marsha Ambrosius, K’Naan and Melanie Fiona. It will include production by Mark Ronson, Cool & Dre, and DJ Green Lantern, among others. – Elan Mancini

DMV's own Muggsy Malone (Fontana/UMG) Interview on KevinNottingham.com coming soon

On the heels of finally releasing Part 1 of his long awaited mixtape series The Parkway Kid: 2 Legs And 10 Toes, Washington,DC/DMV lyricist Muggsy Malone a.k.a The Parkway Kida.k.a TPK just finished up his interview with Sohh.com affiliate website KevinNottingham.com which is going to be up not too long from now. Well be sure to let you know when it's posted. The mixtape TPK: 2 Legs And 10 Toes will be a prelude to his albumProbable Cause coming soon on Warpath/Fontana/Universal Records. Here's an excerpt from from a question in the interview coming soon on KevinNottingham.com

Why should the readers and fans give you a shot and listen to your music from here on out?

"......I just live life like you do, write about it, get on that stage and let you feel me. They say that music is supposed to be an escape from reality. I think that if you escape from reality too long, you'll lose your grip on whats real and whats not. Musically, everybody is at the club right now, which is all good. I'd be a hypocrite if i said i dont go there wit it. You can catch me at Love, Ibiza, Adams Morgan, The DC Tunnel which is now DC Star, used to be called Envy ,The Legend at a go-go or at any one of those letouts on any given night when i'm not working on something. RIP to The Paladium cause we had a lot of good times.  They recently just closed H20 in Southwest. Zanzibar is still open. Even on my joint "Raise Your Glasses"  I say "forget about the past like you caught amnesia" three bars into it. But when you get to wherever you sleep at the most, you've got some things that you cant escape and problems that you're gonna have to deal with eventually...."

Real Talk.. the homie got something to say and needs to be heard..

TPK: Two Legs And Ten Toes  is dropping in June and features production from grammy award winning producer Infamous, Best Kept Secret, Judah, Kajmir Royale, Anno Domini , grammy award winning producer Streetrunner and more.

WALE....PUTS ON FOR THE CITY! WELL SOMEWHAT!

I WISH THIS STORY COULD HAVE BEEN BOUT A DMV RAPPER BUT....HEY!

Mark Ronson & Jay-Z To Produce Young Chris Debut, State Property & Wale
Collabos On The Way:

Jay-Z and Mark Ronson will executive produce the first solo album from Young Chris, Now Or Never, according to the Young Gunna in an interview
with XXLMag.com last night (May 19).

"The distribution is gonna be either through Roc Nation of Interscope," Chris told XXL. "We're weighing out our options right now but it's a
good look however it comes out." The Philly MC expects a deal to be signed "any day now."

Though an the album won't be released until the top of the next year, Chris will drop a Mark Ronson-produced buzz single, "Suga Suga,"featuring UK girl group, Sugababes, whom Hov recently inked to Roc
Nation.

The relationship between Hov and Chris dates back to the Roc dynasty but Ronson muse Wale was the one to build the relationship between Chris and
the British super producer's production label, Allido Records. "One thing about me and Wale is there's no egos -we're like brothers from
another," he said. "Basically, one day, Wale just called me like, "Yo, I'ma holla at Rich [Klienan] and Mark [Ronson] and let them know they
need to look at you- not sayin' that you can't get a deal but they need to do something with you before somebody else grabs you.' I went over to Allido and once we figured out I was free - no attachments and basically
ready to go - we just been working. Mark's been giving me records, and me and Wale been touring and throwing records together - just building
our relationship just so when the deal gets done, everything is a go."

The immediate result will be a mixtape from the two, entitled The Odd Couple. "My man went to school - he did the school thing. That's my man, love him to death. And me, I was in the streets before the rap thing so we just basically called it The Odd Couple. We're alike but we're totally different," he said of the collaboration with Wale.

But first, Chris's next move will be the feature-heavy mixtape The Network, featuring the likes of Bun B, Wale, J. Cole, and if scheduling
works out, Drake as well.

As for his original partners-in-rhyme, State Property, rumors have been abound that a deal is in the works to bring the collective - the entire
original squad in fact-to Roc Nation.

"Anything is possible," said Young Chris, remaining cryptic about the speculation. "I don't wanna speak too much on that. It shouldn't be a
problem getting back together as long as there's a proper offer for us."

NEW BILL H.R. 848 and HOW IT CAN AFFECT YOU!

Ever since radio first commandeered the airwaves, songwriters have made
a small amount of money through royalties every time their tunes are played in most countries, while performers have received nothing. A group called musicFIRST (Fairness in Radio Starting Today) Coalition, a collection of music industry organizations including the Recording Industry Association of America, is working to change that.

They're lobbying for a bill before Congress known as the Performance Rights Act (HR.848). The bill proposes that everyone who performs on a record from session players to lead and background singers be paid for the use of their work. Under current law, only songwriters are paid a royalty fee when their works are played publicly. The bill is set for final revisions this month before possibly being sent to the House floor
for debate.

Radio Nerves Rattled Record companies and artists have taken their appeal to Congress, seeking to get paid more for the content they provide. But radio stations are understandably resisting, feeling that on air exposure is more than enough compensation. Radio stations are also concerned because
ad revenue has taken a substantial hit due to the downturn in the economy, forcing many station to downsize and even cut back on staffing.

It's not clear exactly how much performers might make if the bill passes. Without negotiations, if the bill passes, the final royalty rate
would likely be set by the federal Copyright Royalty Board. But according to musicFIRST, the Performance Rights Act will force small
radio stations to shut down.

"They will pay $5,000 or less a year to clear the rights to all the music they use," said musicFIRST spokesman Martin Machowsky. "Public and
college radio stations will pay only $1,000 a year. Talk radio, radio stations that carry religious services, and other stations that make
only incidental use of music will pay nothing."

For several decades, AM and FM radio broadcasters have been exempt from current copyright law which requires satellite radio, cable radio channels, and Internet webcasts to pay a royalty for the use of music.
The performance rights act would correct a loophole in the copyright law by removing the broadcaster exemption so that all delivery platforms are on equal footing and that artists would receive a performance royalty.

Call To Action Day
Both May 11 and 12 have been designated by musicFIRST to be a Call For Action Day. The organization asks that you call your congressmen to let
them know how you feel. Singers and musicians generally receive a fee
for their work on projects. These projects endure overtime, continuing
to move, inspire and entertain listeners while the songwriter is the only artist being compensated.

Imagine a day when you receive additional compensation each time that
voice you work so hard to perfect and engage is heard. Visit
www.musicfirstcoalition.org for more details.

Me personally I'm not in favor or against this bill. Being I'm a musician I definilty want to get paid for my creations and involvement in music but what kind of bill would this create for "BLACK RADIO" this could possibly cost "Black Radio" millions and force them cut things in other areas and or cut the play of music. Man I'm not too hip how deep this is but this may be a problem.

I'm so glad I made a lot of my bread in the 90's because they making super hard to make money these days. My heart goes out to yall new producers and artist.
