Thank You
As
we are winding down from the December 6 launch of #MadeInTheDMV and
gearing up for the campaign in the New Year, we wanted to take the time
to thank you for your participation in what has been called "one of the
most monumental days in DMV music history." Words can't express how
grateful we are to have had your support and trust in our vision for
#MadeInTheDMV, and the contributions of your time, knowledge, and
experience have made an immediate impact on the atmosphere and energy of
our music scene.
Our Story
We
initially set out to create a platform to inspire, cultivate, and
build. We knew, like many of those outside of our area, that amazing
talent in all aspects of the music industry live and work here, but
bridging gaps, changing attitudes, and instilling a sense of pride would
be key in growing into the next music mecca we have the potential to
become. In personal conversations and awareness of your personal
efforts, we knew that we weren't alone in our belief in our region. We
found ourselves overwhelmingly personally inspired by you all and your
willingness to teach and share and our attendees' eagerness to learn.Putting together #MadeInTheDMV was no easy feat. Aside from the time and logistical challenges of putting the events together in less than 45 days, we faced uncertainty and challenges. We were told that people aren't interested in learning. We were told that the experienced and successful won't openly share. We were told that people would not come to an all-DMV artist showcase without a major headliner. We were told that we faced the risk of getting shut down if we were able to draw a crowd because of disorder. We were told that we can't put on a quality event without a budget and make it free to attend. We were told that no one really cares, and that the DMV will never have a "real industry."
Despite the doubt, we put in inhuman hours and pulled every resource and favor from our friends, colleagues, teams, and families. With your support and involvement, doubt turned to encouragement and expectation, and we built a marketing campaign that generated over 60 graphics, over 6,000 #MadeInTheDMV hashtag posts on Instagram, over 100 auditioners, over 500 registrations for the conference, and over 1500 registrations for the show. Even with the buzz, we faced uncertainty about whether the Internet support would translate into reality.
On a rainy Saturday morning at 9 am, the R.I.S.E. parking lot and our first panel was packed. The rain continued all day, but so did the overwhelming spirit of support and the endless stream of artists, creatives, executives, entrepreneurs, influencers, and supporters. We reached capacity for both the conference and the show, and the only news we made that day was good news. Our final numbers were over 300 in attendance for the conference, 800 for the show, and $2000 raised for charity non-profit, Will Rap 4 Food, Inc.
We are truly honored and humbled by your support and contributions in helping to make #MadeInTheDMV a success. Together we made a powerful statement to local businesses, the region, and perhaps most importantly to each other that there is not only a need, but also a desire to grow and build, and that we can come together as a community in a positive manner in support of one another.

your dreams isn't easy and #MadeInTheDMV is about celebrating our
successes, empowering and inspiring others with our stories and
experiences, and creating a collaborative culture. As the saying
goes, "True leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders."
WE are the leaders. No one else is going to build our own scene like we,
ourselves, can collectively – those of us who live, work, and create
right here in the DMV.
We hope to
collectively build on the platform and momentum you helped to create. We
will continue what we started with #MadeInTheDMV by hosting workshops,
events, collaborating on projects, and more. We hope to grow the
campaign into broader topics and participation given more space and time
in the future. #MadeInTheDMV was created to help mutually support each
other, so please keep us updated on your projects and endeavors.

@DeronDMV tells FRESHdaily Inc. why DMV artists have it rough
FreshDaily Inc: What would you say has been the hardest part so far in pursuing music?
Deron: The hardest part has been being able to funnel the money needed to keep everything going and stay consistent. It’s so expensive to record, let alone put together a marketing and promotional campaigns and pretty much positioning yourself in the market to be successful has been the hardest part. When you have the capital to do it, it’s easy and you can make things happen really fast. But when the money slows down or when things get a little too costly that’s when you can see your consistency start to fade off and you have to build back from step 1 once you get the capital to make moves again.

Rome Cee - Glimpse
Rome
Cee is a hip-hop artist based in Baltimore, MD. He has a versatile flow
and raps about Life topics over soulful beats. His influences have been
cited as Nas, Notorious B.I.G and Wu-tang Clan. Since early 2010, he
has released several albums independently via Bandcamp.com
and other websites. His release, The Extra Mile in 2011 featured the
likes of Brooklyn rapper Sean Price and easily placed Rome as one of
Baltimore's City's "Most Promising Rappers" as quoted by Baltimore Sun
writer Wesley Case for B Magazine, the city's local magazine, which Rome
Cee appeared on the cover for the month he was featured. In early 2012,
Rome released The Grey Area which features a wide array of producers
spanning from the U.K. to Baltimore, MD and has garnered attention from
local media outlets and national websites.

If you don’t know Jay IDK (see
what I did there?), better get acquainted because the up-start emcee is
showing growth with every release and building his fan base
exponentially. Today the DMV native returns to his boom-bap roots via
his brand new MarcNfinit produced cut appropriately titled “Hungry”.
With
just a few weeks left in 2014, I can comfortably go and record and say
the quick-strike release is easily one of the best rap songs to drop
from the east coast this year. Satisfy your hip-hop appetite and stream

IGotIt4Free and Will Rap 4 Food, Inc. will present #MadeInTheDMV Music
Conference and Showcase, which will highlight, educate, inspire, and
unite the DMV arts and entertainment community, while providing
undiscovered talent with national exposure opportunities. You are
invited to audition for the #MadeInTheDMV Show with panelists from MTV,
WKYS, WPGC, Broccoli City and more.
You
are invited to attend the #MadeInTheDMV Show to support our talent and
participate in voting for the DMV's next hit record along with panelists
from MTV, WKYS, WPGC, Broccoli City and more.
Attendees
will enjoy a live musical experience by the DMV's top talent. There
will be giveaways from participating sponsors and drink specials from
Hennessy (must be 21+ to drink).

If you are selected for the #MadeInTheDMV Show, you will perform your next hit or breakout record or producers will participate in a beat battle before
our industry panel and crowd. You will be provided feedback by our
industry panelists who will vote, along with the crowd, on the DMV’s
next hit record(s) or beat(s). Our panelists and sponsors will provide
additional exposure opportunities for performers to include media
features, future performance opportunities, and a complimentary
producer’s session.
Registration Fee:
The
$50 fee includes a charitable donation to Will Rap 4 Food, Inc.
Registrants will be invited to a live audition, to be judged by DMV
music professionals and influencers.
Requirements for Audition:
Must
be 18+. Bring a performance track of 1 original song or your beat on
both CD and USB. During the audition, you will be provided with a
maximum of 5 minutes to perform your song or play your beat. You will be
provided feedback on your performance at the audition by our
preliminary panel. Audition will be held on multiple dates, times, and
locations (to be announced) to ensure all registrants get the
opportunity to audition.
Show Selection Criteria:
You will be judged on the following criteria:
- Showmanship (determined by audition)
- Commercial potential/marketability of song (determined by audition)
- Relatability (determined by #MadeInTheDMV event presenters)
- #MadeInTheDMV is about telling our stories and inspiring each other! Create an Instagram video and tell us who you are, why you are #MadeInTheDMV, or anything else to inspire us to choose you and tag #MadeInTheDMV or @madeintheDMV. Posts will be promoted via our social media. Be creative!
- Fan engagement (determined by social media presence and fan registrations)
- Have your fans tag #MadeInTheDMV or @madeinthedmv along with your name
- Have your fans register for FREE show entry here and include your name in the "Artist You Are Supporting" box
Show Decisions:
- Finalists from auditions will be selected based on Selection Criteria 1 & 2 (listed above).
- Following the audition, you will be notified of your selection and invited to attend as a VIP of the #MadeInTheDMV Show on December 6.
- Performers will be selected and announced at the show based on Selection Criteria 3 (listed above). You must be present to be selected for performance.
Benefits and Prizes:
All show performers will receive the following:
- Feedback on your records by the industry panel

- Promotion on @MadeInTheDMV social media sites
Select performers will receive the following based on individual panelist preferences:
- Allhiphop.com “Breeding Ground” feature
- Producer Tone P will select a performer for a one-on-one session and custom production
- Jermon Williams will select performers for the 2015 Broccoli City Festival

Devin White debuts new single on WPGC 95.5 !
DMV Recording artist Devin White is set to debut his new single, "Diamonds in the Rough" live Wednesday, December 10th
on Washington D.C.'s own WPGC 95.5. DJ Tony Redz sits down with White
for an on air interview about the new record and musical influences of
the approaching project.
"The
new record is all about freedom of expression. As I get older I realize
that my musical voice is specific only to me, and I'm having fun with
that. Creating things on my terms how I want them done and said." Said
the singer, "Diamonds [in the rough] is a great record... One of my
best. I can't wait to get people's feedback once they hear it."
The interview goes down live Wednesday, December 10th at 9pm only on WPGC 95.5
