The DMV hip hop scene is special. I havent been knee deep in it but the time I've been grinding I've noticed the hard work that most people put in. I've never scene an area that has lots of talent from producers to MC's to DJ's.
If we really came together and created a REAL FORCE, the DMV couldn't be stopped.

This is one area of the country that still has a sense of true hip-hop. From what I've heard, beats capture that 'essence' and lyrics aren't dumb down.
Peace!

My DMV Hip-Hop Pride lies in the artists whose professionalism has grown in tandem with their talents. These are the same people who have continued to invest in themselves as artists, year after year, and not get "too big for their britches" before achieving any substantial success. Despite the high level of mediocrity that still exists, and is unfortunately supported, their are artists in the DMV who "get it" and "got it". More people linking with a team of individuals who have clearly defined roles, know their jobs, and will correct you when you're wrong, is another refreshing change I've seen with in the past year. All of this progressive activity has gotten the attention of media outlets - near and far, blogs to TV - letting music listeners on the outside of the scene know that something besides politics is brewing in and around the beltway. I hope that this same level of progress continues to grow at an excelerated pace for many years to come, and that there will be a handful of DMV rappers who become household names across the globe.

Yours truly,

Not hating but, I could careless what the rapper in the DMV think about the talent in the DMV! The point is that you will never grow until people beyond the DMV respect your talent. This means, if your not grinding out side of the DMV then your just a glorified Karaoke singer. I refuse to support mediocracy. When you support mediocracy that is exactly what you will get in return.

If your music quality, presentation, marketing, and business is not up to the standards of a major independent label then you FAIL. PERIOD.

Downloads are not a form of acceptance or grinding. Example: I open a million emails from viagra everyday. That does not mean that I would ever buy or even like Viagra. I just opened/downloaded it.

If you are not selling your music, then you are letting the public know you're not worth buying. So many of you get caught up in the hype of the internet that you fail to realize that this is a business.

Its a dumb ass cycle that you thrust upon yourselves in the DMV. Your man can rap, so he gets his man that can make tracks, they do a song, perform it at the open mic and get a DMV Awards for most attended at the open mic. Total production cost (open mic tickets) $20. Then go pop $300 worth of bottles in the club. Pure clown ass shit. lol

Not to single Dre's, 43's, or BBU's open mic out they provide a spot for local talent to get their work out on. RESPECT for that!

However, where is the return on the investment? How can you tell who really appreciates your music?
Who knows you outside of an open mic room other then your parents? I could do a Eviplist blast and clobber all your download numbers, so that alone should tell you that downloads are a false claim of acceptance.

The DMV fight and hate on each other and believe it or not, the DMV is one of the smallest markets thru out the United States.

If I go to the GOGO will the people know who you are? That is where the majority of the city's urban consumer buying power dwells (FOR GOD SAKE! They still buy pictures for $10 and have a camera phone in their pocket lol) and most of them don't know how to or use or buy music from a computer or internet. GET ME!

I'm just saying... but what would I know? I'm just a potential consumer. Thats all! lmao

@Anonymous You sound mad so let me clarify my point. What dose a geographical location have to do with talent?

I buy Snoop, Jay-Z, 50, Wayne, Em etc... I doubt I would have even heard of them unless they were one of the best from their area.

2nd string sits on the bench. No matter which city the game is played in. PERIOD. No matter how many family and friends support your effort, your not what the fans want to see.

Keep your passing out hugs and Koom-By-Ya mentality away from me. This HIP HOP nigga! Protect your neck at all time! Thats some looser shit. How you going to talk me into loving your favorite rapper? When I think he some shit. If something is hot, people do what ever they can to get it. EVEN BUY IT! If its mediocre... You can... KEEP DAT SLIM..
