A Messege from Tae Barz

.

I TALK TO 1 OF THE OTHER CONTESTANTS YESTERDAY JUST TO SEE HOW THINGS BEEN GOING SINCE 106&PARK SHOW.

HIS NAME IS MONTAY AND HE IS FROM ATL........WELL SINCE THE SHOW FOR HIM

HE HAS BEEN GETTING RADIO SPINS, SHOWS LIKE CRAZY, JUST RECORDED A SONG WITH 1 OF AKON'S ARTIST, EVERYBODY JUST EMBRACES HIM FOR HIS EFFORTS IN TRYING REPRESENT FOR HIS CITY.

THE DMV IS SO OPPOSITE! YEA I GOT LOVE FROM THE FANS AND I LOVE YALL FOR THAT! BUT FAR AS A RADIO SPIN.....LMAO, WE DIDNT EVEN GET A INTERVIEW!

WE DID A COUPLE SHOWS BUT NOUTHIN LIKE YOU WOULD EXPECT FOR SOMEBODY WHO JUST WON ON A NATIONAL SHOW THAT GETS MILLIONS OF VIEWERS!

JUDAH SHOWED US LOVE IN THE DMV RAP UP VIDEO, THANKS HOMMIE! NOW DONT GET ME WRONG, I DONT EXPECT NOBODY TO BE ALL ON OUR BACKS BUT AT THE SAMETIME, COME ON NOW! WE WON! IF MONTAY CAN GET LOVE AFTER HE LOST FROM HIS HOMETOWN AND WE CANT GET ANY AFTER WE WON, THAT JUST SAYS ALOT ABOUT THE DMV AND WHERE WE LIVE!

WE AS ARTIST TRY SO HARD TO REPRESENT FOR THE DMV BUT WHEN YOU ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING BIG, IT SEEMS THE DMV WONT EVEN REPRESENT FOR YOU....NOT THE FANS...THIS IS MORE SO DIRECTED TO SOME OF THE DJ'S, PRODUCERS, ARTIST AND ANYONE IN THE POSITION TO HELP! IT'S COOL THOUGH, CAUSE WHEN WE DO MAKE IT, MEMORIES WILL BE SO VIVID AND THINGS LIKE THIS ONLY MAKE US WORK HARDER AND APPRECIATE BEING SELF MADE ARTIST!

AINT NOUTHIN LIKE MARYLAND MUZIQ-TAE BARZ

I understand how you feel homie.....u also gotta understand the people screaming DMV are not really riding for the DMV or the artist in the DMV. They are riding for themselves. Also a lot of times people don't know how to put shine on others and still shine themself. They don't show love because they think your taking the attention away from them...........that's why people don't show love. Feel free to chime in DMV. I remember getting a comment on the blog from a dude called "YungN" and he was getting on me about not showing Tae love after he won 106. Well what YungN didn't know I had a plan to get TAE recognized more than just showing him love on my blog. Hence....putting footage of him in the Rap Up which was viewed but thousands etc..... Lesson Learned!  "JUDAH"

That has been going on for a long time, it's nothing new. But there are alot of us that are breaking that stigma, reason why people are coming together alot more.

I didn't know Whitefolkz or Lyricss a a month or two ago but know i'm making records with them.

U already know da answer barely none!!! DMV media, promoters, clubs, radio stations, dj's, managers, publicists, A&R's, producers, artists, etc., need 2 stop talkin' DMV & start walkin' DMV!!!

One more thing you need to understand to is that dude YougN is from a city that has made it already. We in a area where everybody still trying to get notice.

We in the City of Nobody's to the rest of the Country musically.

So dont get discouraged. We still in the process of weedin out who's for real and who's so called dick riding for the sake of hangin on to something relavant.

but it wont be to long before the shine, just continue to put your best work forward.

You know what kills me is ..all the damn whining..I been listening to dmv artist for awhile until recently they didnt do anything for me and its still only a few I like. Im not going bump you just cause you from dc, i love music to much to listen to bullshit. If you not hot you not hot. I didnt know alot of these cats before sites like forthedmvonly(actually its the only site that open my eyes to see not every artist was terrible in the dmv..thank u judah) To Tay just cause you on 106thandPark dont mean you suppose to get spins I deal with signed artist who have been on MTV and they aint getting no spins..True I feel WKYS and WPGC should be involved more but they gotta a program to follow(a higher power). You gotta go to these stations stand outside, schedule meetings, stand outside, find out who the program director is (Al Payne for WKYS im not sure for WPGC) standout side at the night clubs, spend some money blah blah blah. Going outside of is always a good way to get started but you need a good ass PR you need a good as team. Imma take judah for example RAtheMC dont get no spins yet but judah got this crazy ass buzz for her all the way in fucking cali thats because he's networking with everybody..get your website up, network with other sites, invest money into someone else who has a buzz so you can get your name out their.Tay 106th and park is a small step to what you have to do to be successful, dont get hung up on your hometown because at the end of the day you want to reach the world.

We dont just work with the DMV, we work everybody. If its hot I will post its take longer cause Im the only writer and I do so much other stuff but send it

P.S. Dont sleep on how many executives,dj,promo, in music industry are from DC.

good post! its weird tho, its kinda like you are suppose to forever be humble and the minute you point out the unjust, someone considers u a whiner! i agree with most of the prior comments tho, i just dont think the people in the dmv who can make the most difference care enough to do it!

NEVER EXPECT NOTHING FROM ANYONE YOUNG BROTHER, JUST KEEP GRINDING ANE EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT FOR YOU. FUCK DC RADIO ANY DAMN WAY, THEY DON’T BREAK NO RECORDZ HERE.

Why people say DMV artists whine too much they should. DMV is like the twilight zone for hiphip they should whine alot lol. I grew up moving around all around the country like Detroit LA NY ATL and seriously & honestly DC got the most hater fans I've ever seen in my life! The underground artists here been doin it big as lonh as I been here far as i can see and are lyrically better than most underground rappers and alot of mainstream rappers are other places but they get more hate than luv or support from DMV. You luv your lame go-go but hate your rappers except for wale because he used go-go to trick you fools to have his back lol. I heard the coward not even from DC I never seen him. I like all the rappers potential I see on this site even wale but I don't get it why you dont you people are too weird for me!

Deuce made a very good point though. I can say, getting my stuff out in different areas has gotten me more support than my actual base. If anything, Tae, I'd say use that 106 shit to your advantage and work your connects however way you can; look at it as only the beginning to something better, fam. Good luck.

People in the dmv that have resources are selfish. Your vid won't get on mtv unless Tabi does it. Its shit like that that's fucked up. The only people that helped me out was judah, p stew and rico and they aint ask for shit in return. They helped out several times and aint trip but niggas out here are selfish with resources. On the real with Tay even though u won son I think its about the music. You need better music not saying your shit wack but u need to step up the production and sound. And another think travel my young nigga. Get out and meet people . Nigga judah took me to texas with him in 2005 and it opened my eyes to building networks and relationships. Fuck this city they don't care.

all the above comments are very good. let me add..

The DMV aint never work before the actual word "DMV" (i believe came around in 2006) came around. The "DMV" shows that the industry is getting it together within DC, MD, VA. Before, 2006 everybody was out doin anything they could to get there shit heard. The "DMV" before 2006 was never bumpin "DMV" shit. I was in ATL, Boston, Philly & NY heavy. Shit, I moved to ATL for a while to get things poppin and within 2 weeks I was the official tour dj for an artist on Universal/Motown and had four production credits on a Don Cannon mixtape..I used to go to NY EVERY week! sometimes just for a studio session with Tragedy. Sometimes just a meeting. Sometimes just to kick it in a park and smoke with Nature. JUST TO BE AROUND HIP-HOP!

Now, we got something positive happening in DC,MD,VA- The "DMV" and people here and outta here are recognizing this fact. So, all I can say is everybody keep focus and use your connects from outta town, make new joints in town and most importantly keep makin SOLID music.

There's a shitload of artists makin noise right now. Lets support all of em, unless they on shit that ruins hip-hop.

HIP-HOOOOOOOOOOOOP

o and fuck the radio. they aint ever played hip-hop. shit is even worse now, all it is is pop music and gay r&b. Fuck outta here!!!!!!!

"...a prophet hath no honor in his own country"

if you're waiting on the "hometeam" or the DJs in DC to show you love...dont hold your breath

granted, there are a FEW DJs that actually respect the role of the DJ to "break" new records and put people on to good music....you need to stay connected to those few and dont trip off these big fish in a small pond ass niggas

To be fair, I think a lot of the DJs and such in the "DMV" have become jaded over the years frankly because they received a lot of bad music from local artists (that's whole 'nother argument, though) I dont ever remember another time when I heard so much good shit coming from the area. '09 will be a great year!!

Just keep grinding and stay true to yourself and your art & you'll win more than competitions!

It's a lot of stuff I want to say, but I'm going to talk to Tae before putting it on here. Because it's only right that I talk to him first.

Tae is right in so many ways and Judah hit it on the head with his response..How do you shed light on an artist without taking some away from yourself...I dont blame the DJ's or the artists..It is the higher ups that need to grow a set and show love to local artists..many of the execs at Radio One or Infinity (PGC I think) are not from here and their only job is to play what is putting money into their pockets..That is why you hear Beyonce's single ladies 30 times in a day..I aint heard "The DMV Wrap Up" 1 time on the radio...We still dont have an identity with our stations in DC as far as Hip Hop goes..GOGO gets love and I thank God for that..Keep grindin Tae and dont let the lack of support frustrate you..just grind and prove to the industry you deserve a shot..

Chaotic

I remember seeing a dude on the Mason Basketball team try to get into Love (Dream) and Taz carried him at the door saying that he better transfer to Duke before asking to get a VIP band..3 months later they hit the Final Four and Ill be damned if Taz wasnt promoting a George Mason Final Four Party..LOL! He was acting like he was a proud father...Its a damn shame..Hate is a disease!

Understand what your up against Tae...this has been going on since the early 90's. Also understand that the majority of these so called radio personalities want to be artist themselves. They will come to the open mics and lecture artist about what "standards" artist music need to be up to yet they dont seem to hold national artist to the same standards so if in fact they were jaded wouldnt they be just as if not more jaded by some of the bad music that they constantly play in rotation. In all my travels across the US the DMV area is the only one that doesnt play its local artist. We as artist have to explore other outlets to gain exposure. Good Luck Young Buck!!!!

your time will come young man...this business ain't easy...it happens in God's time, not ours. when you have talent it will rise to the top eventually. there is whole lot i can say about the state of affairs in the DMV, but i'm gonna refrain and just give you the advice to keep your head up and just keep doing what you do. there is alot more folks who know and appreciate what you are doing than you know!

ItsHevewae said...

Here my point blank comment: either we ride together or collide altogether. Don't wait til DMV get really hot then u wanna rep.

for me being in the game for awhile and seen alots have change since then but the "crab in the barrel" syndrome haven't, so get with it folk. I applaud Tae Barz, Ra, Tabi, Wale, Judah, Raheem, and many other that rep us on the national level. For many artists that know me, I always always show love for every artist that get on the mic, sadly ,some not all, I don't get the same return but I still support them regardless.

Damn, I feel you pain homie. Sad 2 say that it's been like that for a minute in the DMV and from the look of things it's gon' take something drastic for that 2 change. If you love what you do, which I think you do, just stay on ya' grind yung.

From one MC 2 another, you got a fan in me homie....*HOLLYWOOD*

real talk.think global, act local. you never forget where you from, but you can't expect the love to come gushing out just because you won. DMV is a buyers market...note the word "buyers". people come here to sell their music, alot of times they aren't looking for your home grown product. so what do you do? you keep heading out of town, you said it, dude that lost has shows and things, well since y'all talking, ask about doing a show together in ATL, build your audience and they stick with you forever. I did a record with the Roots before DYWM came out, was signed to BMG in 97, then a french label Label Bleu in 2000, have toured over 35 countries including Cuba, the Middle East, China, Mongolia and Russia, taught freestyle classes at Stanford, CalArts, NYU, the New School, SFU & George Mason, performed with the Roots, Busta, KRS, N.E.R.D, sold out shows in Paris, Barcelona and got nominated for a Grammy this year..and come home and alot of people don't have a clue as to who I am or what I do and I ain't mad or happy about that. it is what it is, man. I chose my path, i make the music i like to make and i ain't heard a song of mine on the air in DC except for the cats at WPFW who run my jonts..and i ain't mad at my life so far. DO you and make timeless good music and your success will come, it may not be here, but bammas in Japan, Australia, Germany or Egypt may love you and over there you the king, that is success. it's all in your perspective, but keep grinding. i will.
