Guest Blog #2 "DEATH OF THE DMV" by DJ TORKAVELI

Ask yourself this question. If the only people that bought rap albums
were other rappers, how many albums would they sell?

Was it 3 million New Orleans rappers that bought The Carter 3? Dumb
question right? Well, that's what a lot of rappers in the "DMV Movement"
seem to believe in their heart of hearts.

Here's a classic scenario:
1. Rapper makes garbage CD
2. Rapper namedrops and stalks a more respected rapper
3. Rapper blames other DMV rappers for not buying a garbage CD
4. 99% of the DMV public (that DOESN'T rap) never get a chance to hear
the garbage

If you want a mass amount of people to potentially like your music, you
can't concentrate on trying to sell to OTHER RAPPERS!

Other rappers aren't necessarily "crabs in a barrel", they're consumers
like everyone else! Make music that will MAKE them support you instead
of trying for FORCE that crap in somebody's face by saying "you don't
support the DMV."

Death of the "DMV Movement" cop out!

If you don't like it (like some of these groupie blog sites don't) get
in line with the rest of em...

DMV Rebels coming soon.

* The views of Tork are not the views of JUDAH and FTDMVO......pwhahahahha I also wanted to say that!

REAL TALK. It seems that a lot of the new artists in the "DMV" are so concerned with trying to get noticed by established artists and the the self-anointed 'gatekeepers' and 'tastemakers' that they forget about some of the FOUNDATIONS

1. Rocking a good show
2. Songwriting and beat selection
3. Cultivating a fan base

This is what happens when there is no REAL hip hop scene - just disjointed blogs and one-off events...

TO ADD TO DJ TORKAVELI
1.DMV RAPPERS DONT APPRECIATE OPEN MIC SHOWS
2.DMV RAPPERS ARE LAZY(NOT ALL BUT MAJORITY)
3.DMV RAPPERS ONLY NETWORK WIT OTHER RAPPERS THEY KNOW

REASONS:

1.DMV RAPPERS TREAT OPEN MIC SHOWS LIKE DEY ON TOUR & SHIT, STOP COMIN TO DA SHOWS RAPPIN & ROLLIN OUT,ITS MAKES DA DMV MOVEMENT LOOK REAL BAD WHEN DONT SHOW SUPPORT,EVEN IF U DONT LIKE WUT ANOTHA ARTIST PERFORMIN STILL STAND UP OR STAY LONG ENOUGH TO GIVE DAT LEVEL OF RESPECT TO OTHER ARTISTS AFTA YOU

2.NOW DMV ARTIST HATE GOIN TO EVENTS DAT DEY NOT APART OF, ITS LIKE DEY GOTTA GET PAID OR SUMN WHEN DERE NOBODIES 4REAL,I KNO U CAN GO TO SUM EVENTS N SHO LUV TO OTHER DMV ARTISTS, & I KNO ITS BLOWER BUT I GO N E WAY INSTEAD JUST TO SHOW RESPECT,I AINT SAYIN GO TO ALL, BUT AT LEAST SUM OF EM

3.DMV RAPPERS NEED 2 GO OUTSIDE DERE BOX,LIKE FEATURE ANOTHER DMV RAPPER DATS GOOD ON UR MIXTAPE/ALBUM | NOT DA SAME ONES DAT U HANG OR AFFILIATE WIT ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS

LAST BUT NOT LEAST...TO ALL DMV ARTIST DAT DOES HAVE A LIL BUZZ OR A BUZZ PERIOD IN DA DMV OR WHEREEVA STOP HATIN & BEEFIN WIT OTHER DMV ARIS,TRUST ME ITS A WASTE OF TIME & MONEY, IF U DISSIN ANOTHA ARTIST BCUZ HE SAID HE FROM SUMWHERE HE NOT DEN FUCK LET EM B...ERY1 AINT BORN 2 B REAL...JUST SAYIN...ITS A SHAME YUNG CUZ DA WAY I LOOK AT IT DC,MD,& NORTHERN VA ARE NOBODIES...DINK ABOUT IT,WE'RE NOT ON YET SO INNER CITY BEEF/BATTLING DEAD IT...BUT WHO AM I TO SAY -SIM CARD OUT

Addendum:
We also have to create a vehicle that we get more fans into the building, we have to cut all the bullshit hipster/street nigga shit out. Both groups have flaws, both groups have guys and girls that need to hang up their mic’s and get day job’s ( I digress) !! back to my main point we have to find a way to get the best of the best in one arena and put on a awesome fucking show.

I AGREE WITH WHAT THE LAST ANONYMOUS PERSON SAID

CUT OUT THAT HIPSTER/STREET BEEF

IVE PREFORMED AT PURE LOUNGE, MAYORGA, RED LOUNGE, ALMAZ....ON THE OTHER SIDE....THE LEGEND, DC STAR, JAXX, ECT

IVE SEEN SHITTY ARTISTS IN BOTH CROWDS

GOOD ARTISTS IN BOTH CROWDS AS WELL

BUT FOR REAL, PEOPLE NEED TO STOP MAKING MUSIC TO IMPRESS OTHER RAPPERS LIKE TORK SAID

I ASK MY BITCHES WHAT THEY THINK OF THE ARTISTS PREFORMING AT OPEN MICS AND SHOWCASES

THEIR RESPONSE:

DMV MUSIC SOUNDS THE SAME

THEY DONT LIKE IT

THEY GET BORED

THEY JUST WAITIN FOR ME OR RATED R TO PREFORM

THATS NOT COOL

STEP YA GAME UP AND MAKE MUSIC FOR THE FANS

So true Big Fella...another thing I notice though is that a lot of artists from the DMV are beginning to sound the same. Same flow, same wordplay...to the point I cant even distinguish one from the other. I dont think you can cultivate an audience that way when the majority of the showcase sounds alike. That may have been pointed out before, but it def should be reiterated. I do, however, support the movement cause its only right but damn...
