From Bree to YOU! If the shoe fits...WEAR IT!

I was rapping to my girl Bree via twitter and she said something interesting things in regards to music, rappers and hip hop in general. So I had her share them with you!

Now before I get into my reasons why I say that most of these "rappers", "singers", and "producers" should quit now, let me just say I am in no way talking to the talented artists out there. In a world where the Internet can either make or break you as a artist ( or as a person for that matter), I see too many people coming out with mix tapes and videos that will never get played other than in there house or right before it hits the cutting room floor. I believe I know the reason why: So many people feel like "If Soulja Boy can do it then why can't I"? People don't realize that his luck was a one in a million chance, and that's even if you're talented! At the end of the day, its about who wants it the most-Do you? If you're not willing to get off your ass and go into the streets and to your local radio stations to get your music played, then you're gonna just be another individual that wishes they were making millions. The Internet isn't going to get you a record deal, that's gonna be up to you and if you're able to keep grinding.

To all the untalented people out there, it's just not gonna work. If you've been making "music" for more than 5yrs and you're still not able to even get a record spin, chances are that you're wack and it's just not gonna happen.Yes, I know that they're are some people that's signed that are wack (IE: Charles Hamilton, Flo-Rida), but obviously they were around somebody that said " Hey someones gonna listen to this crap, let's try to promote it"! Ask yourself these questions: Does anyone besides your family listen to your music? Are they playing your music on the radio? Are they even talking about you on the blog sites? If your answers to these questions are "No", then most likely you're not talented and you're gonna keep wasting your time, money, and energy doing something that's not giving you anything in return. But don't take my word for it, ask someone who doesn't know you to listen to your music and if they are close to tears with laughter then you already know what the deal is.
              XOXO

Radio doesn't play anybody's shit anymore, if anything the internet nowadays facilitates everything, just cause they not playing your shit on the radio doesn't mean you can't make it. But i do agree that there are alot of untalented folks out there who do believe that because so and so made it they also can. Is it Luck? I certainly don;t think so, i just believe that whatever work and effort you put into the grind,is exactly how much you'll get back as far as success, and that also goes for regular everyday life. But then again who am I? I'm just another dude with an opinion...

Damn she read my mind I feel the same way it's no secret that man is doing it,everybody is doing it just because the next person is doing it,Music is not everbody's calling and I feel the big artisr are struggling to make a impact still so what makes you think you will if you not coming with something that will change the game if that's even possible still. And you wanna support people doing something positive but some of this music is garbage especially in this area but as we all know you're labeled a hater if you say that but oh well more power to you like the writer said you only wasing your time.

I gotta agree 100 percent with this post.If ur hustle aint right,ur as good as dead in this industry.Unfortunately, talent is not even half of the equation of what it takes for an artist to blow anymore, its more of the gimmick u present or how u fit in the landscape of whats in right now.But I'm most def gonna do what I gotta on my end to make shit happen, and like how every other artist feels,I know I'm gonna b at the forefront of this rap shit VERY SOON!!!! DEUCES.

THE BEST DAMN MIXTAPE IS COMING....

Every game is crowded! What does she wanna be when she grows up??? How could you start by telling someone to quit??? I understand the point should we like to make, but her open letter is discouraging and she is in no place to make these statements. With that being said emcees remember you are artist first. Art is original and personal so when you duplicate bulls*** , people are force to formulate opinions like such...I can sya so much more but im not the typing type, HA! There are real artist in the DMV word to Godsilla.

I feel what you are saying but she unless she is somwhow involved in the music industry beyond a consumer level she can't tell someone what they can and cant do. Just because youre not getting played on the radio does not mean you arent successful or cant be. There are many artists that get no radio spins but are hugely popular and cake up on the road and off of their albums. She is speaking from a laymens perspective from what I read. I respect her opinion, but at the end of the day she was completely wrong about a lot of things. One valid point that she had was in regards to getting out and not just relying on the internet. BTW, Souljah Boy did not gt "lucky" he strategized and succeeded, and last time I checked he is still doing so.

i think a lot of artists are lazy and most don't fully digest how much of an investment sustainably living as a full time artist requires.

yet also i realize that some artists are full of nothing but passion and love for their craft yet they don't understand how to convert that into business or promotion.

when people tell me i can't do something, i listen and understand why they don't think it's possible. then i use that information in order to accomplish my goal without those issues becoming pitfalls.

I agree some dudes should quit. Not after 5 years though. To me its the some of the ones who started 1 or 2 years ago. Music is like a craft and it takes time to develop it so sometimes it takes artist 5 maybe 10 years to reach their peak. Now you got the new youngins doin music for all the wrong reasons. They dont have any kind of message and they dont represent anything but what they see someone else do. Ok another thing you have to take in consideration is DC is and will always be Go Go city. The rap scene just started getting a buzz a few years ago so of course u not go hear a lot of dc rap artist on the radio. We been protesting and fighting for the radio to play independent music forever. And thats coming from a artist who had a couple spins on the radio here and abroad.

she made a point that wack ppl need to give up but then the rest of what she said was garbage on a serious note there are some people that have been grinding for year past 5 years and then they get on....and yeah the radio doesnt make you anymore look at jabari for example....dudes buzz is getting major....and ive never heard a song from him on the radio so what she is saying is wack everything no a days has gone to the internet.... im mean you still gotta get on the streets and push your music but for everything else she said i feel that shit was just dumb in my opinion....

Talent and motivation are two key things you need. And it depends on the level of both of what you have. Because they both can take you far. However, lacking one or the other can hinder your progress. Good read.
