The
"Matters of the Heart" R&B Benefit is an annual entertainment
showcase that serves as a great date night near Valentine's Day and also
raises funds for a local non-profit organization.
The
show, now in its fifth year, is produced by AmazingGrace Productions, a
live events company started by Howard University alum Grace Salvant.
The show is scheduled for Thursday, February 12
at the Howard Theatre. The lineup includes a combination of vocalists,
instrumentalists, poets and comedians who are young alum of local
institutions like the University of Maryland and Howard University.
Every
year the show sells out and raises at least $500 for its selected
non-profit. Past recipients include: Kid Power DC, the DC Rape Crisis
Center, the National Breast Cancer Coalition and Pediatric AIDS/HIV
Care. This year’s beneficiary is Life Pieces to Masterpieces, a
Washington, DC nonprofit that provides mentorship and programs to
African American boys and young men in the city’s most difficult areas.
