The Vodka & Rum Mixtape takes the idea of DJ Danger Mouse’s Grey Album one step further with a selection of verses from some of the group’s favorite artists: Lauryn Hill, Kanye West, Nas, Wyclef Jean, Busta Rhymes, and 2Pac. Alexei, Fly Gypsy's producer, created new tracks, using elements from artists such as Earth Wind & Fire, The Cure, & the Chemical Brothers, and paired them with fresh verses written by Kowboy Kom, the group's emcee.
The result is an incredible blend of soul, rock, hip-hop and electronica, which has received over 6,000 listens and almost 2,000 downloads on Datpiff.com in the past week! In "Block Rockin’" for example, Kom spars with Lauryn Hill and Busta Rhymes over a Chemical Brothers beat, while on "Reasons," Kom brings his sexy back, alongside Kanye, over a smooth track sampling Earth Wind & Fire. On the soulful hip-hop folk classic, "Look for You," Kom and David James rhyme and sing as Alexei plays acoustic guitar.
