My Convo with P Stew

Ju: What it do Stew? How u been bro?

P: Same shit bigger pile...same circus different clowns..u know me...I'm grinding hard, pause! lol what's poppin...

JU: I haven't see u since the dmv rap up came out last year but what's new in your world?

P: No Doubt, that shit was poppin too, did u do one this year? Well, I'm not at the radio fulltime anymore..I joined up with my homey Carmelo Anthony to run Krossover Ent. an Indie Label/Entertainment/Media Company, we have Philly's finest Cassidy with us and Eastside Atlanta rapper Diego Cash...so def looking forward to 09, check us out at krossoverent.com on twitter I'm @YaBoyPstew Cassidy is @LarsinyFamily and Diego is @Diegocash...and I'm setting sumpin beautiful up with DMV's own Kingpin Slim catch him at @Kingpinslim on twitter

JU: How the radio treating u?

P: Radio treated me great for 13yrs..I learned a lot..met a lot of good people..It was my start into the Biz...I still do my show, the One Nation Hip Hop Show, Chain Gang Bang Bang! with Big Zo, DJ J Buttah, DJ Joe, young chris, and DJ Red Money Sat night Sun morn's from 2a-6a playing all that exclusive hip hop from the DMV and beyond...but I'm not at KYS fulltime anymore, had to spread my wings, they opened the cage for me and let me free, so I flew...

JU: How u loving this dmv music movement?

P: Loving it...it's growing everyday, so much potential to be a viable hip hop market like Atlanta, Houston, Miami, NY, La..Chi, Det, St. Louis...etc by viable I mean a bunch of National Artist from here with major deals and videos and songs all over the radio, the potential is here and I'm loveing being a part of it...

JU: What artist u feeling in the dmv?

P: Man sheeeeeeeet lol, Kingpin Slim, Oy Boyz, Top Notch, Wale, Tabi, Leugar, Gerreddi, XO, Southeast Slim, Mo Chips, Don Juan, KayeM, LikeBlood, Ice Bloc, CO OP, my homey Vu-C the Fly, I know I'm missing a cpl but um cough cough, as far as producers too, Team Demo, J Buttah, SpineHytters, BKS, Judah, No Betta, 8trix, and so many more, but I have short term mem loss...

JU: What's your roll in the dmv music movement?

P: My role is to utilize any of my resources whether it's my positions at radio, I did everything from on air(Live Squad Baby!) to production to being Asst. Program Director...or even now that I'm on the otherside of the game the full fledged entertainment side...it's still my role to utilize my resources to help the DMV be rcognized globally for hip hop..the world knows about Go Go, about wings and mambo sauce, about the DMV's love for NB's, the world knows about that...but ask the world what rapper(s) have made it from DC? 90% won't have an answer the 10% that will, the backpack hip hop historians might say Digable Planets, or Section 8 Mob, or QuestionMark Asylum, maybe even NonChalant...but for the most part the DMV isn't recognized globally for Hip Hop so my role is to aid in the global marketing of DMV Hip Hop...and there's a lot of different things I do ithat define my role...

JU: Where u see the dmv in 5 years

P: in 5 years President Obama will have started on his 2nd term as President and the DMV and it's artists, producers, music exec's and more will be known on a Global level...yup 5 years from now if everyone here plays they're part, stop the complaining and just continue to work then I think the DMV will be Big in Hip Hop, in 5 years...please DMV help me back that statement up...

JU: What's good with the one nation hip hop show?

P: We doin it..every sat night sun morn 2a-6a we rocking exclusive joints from the DMV and the world...we're breaking records...we're putting the spotlight on DMV artist..we're looking to expand the show in other markets but, it's not easy doin that...catch us on 93.9 wkys if ur in the Nations Cap or stream us at 939wkys.com if ur outside of the DMV

JU: What's some of ya favorite. Spots in the dmv

P: Cap Center at the Blvd(sideline, chkn n waffles...etc) I fux with all the clubs in the city, that's another thing the DMV is know for globally, partying..Love, Park, Lux, Lotus, 24, DC Star, EyeBar...etc all them spots...I used to chill at All Daz, Shooters, We R One, Mchunu..etc and believe it or not I like goin down to DTLR evry now and then and just chillin looking at sh*t, window shopping lol..up against the wall too...I'm not here as much anymore I'm on the road on the grind but when I am here those the spots u can catch me at...

JU: In ya opinion what's wrong with dmv musically?

P: Tough question...only because its only the DMV Hip Hop scene, lets be clear, musically the DMV is on, from Marvin Gaye to Raheem Devaughn, from Duke Ellington to Chucky Thompson n Rich Harrison..Chuck Brown...the DMV has actors, comedians..and all types of musicians...its just Hip Hop where the DMV is lacking on a global level...but the DMV is growing, and thats the importance of getting behind artist like Wale, and Tabi who are making it outside of here, and supporting them...don't hate cuz it isn't you that's on, just keep working..stop complaining about radio not playing ur music and keep working..I have the serenity prayer tatt'd on my left bicep as a reminder that I can't change or control everything..I can only deal with what's in my control and I think if the DMV starts doing more of that we'll be good, stop worrying about what type of music the next man/woman is doing and just DO YOU!!!

JU: In ya opinion what's good bout dmv music?

P: The Music, the talent, the energy, the diversity...it's a beautiful thing that it's The DMV, DC MD and VA...let's mob up and take the world by storm....all levels of the game is here, rappers, producers, a&r's, young exec's..etc its growing..when its grown, it's on!!!

I know u didn't ask me but my favorite rap albums out right now are Jadakiss "The Last Kiss" Rick Ross "Deeper Than Rap" and Asher Roth "Asleep in the Bread Aisle"  in that order I fux with UGK's jawnt too...and I'm looking fwd to Cassidy's album "C.A.S.H. Cass A Straight Hustla", Diego Cash's album "Language Arts", Styles P album, Red & Meth, Ghostface, Raekwon, Eminem, 50, Dre......and last but not least Kingpin Slim got "Powder for the Babies" this summer stay tuned for the Beam Up! Stamp!
