DC’s First Humanities, Arts & Technology Festival at Gateway DC Set for August 2-3, 2014
Free, Family Festival to Engage Residents in DC’s Creative Economy

(Washington, DC) – Hear, see, create, learn, taste, dance and interact at the city’s first Humanities, Arts & Technology Festival at Gateway DC – Ward 8’s new innovative urban park and pavilion on the St. Elizabeths East campus. The first HATFestDC (modified from the Arts & Humanities Festival which began last year) scheduled for August 2-3 from 1 to 6 p.m., is designed to inspire families and creative entrepreneurs through unique and up-close interaction with the work and processes behind the creative economy of the nation’s capital. With a theme of “Humanities, Arts & Technology at Work,” HATFestDC will demonstrate how to thrive in creative fields, while inspiring both adults and youth to build projects and programs with H.A.T. (humanities, arts, and technology) disciplines at the center. This first festival in a two-part series scheduled for August and October is sure to be a great time for anyone who enjoys music, culture, the arts, performance, technology and culinary arts.

The HATFestDC will feature a main performance area and five themed tents focused on music, visual arts and graphic design, food, technology and children’s activities. Concurrently, each area will include interactive workshops, readings, artist talks and panel discussions, robotics, art creation, theatrical performances and chef demonstrations. Dozens of vendor spaces will provide area entrepreneurs a chance to authentically connect and establish relationships with potential consumers.

The complete festival schedule will be announced at hatfestdc.com and @HATFestDC on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook; HATFestDC encourages both volunteers and vendors to
register online prior to July 30.

Gateway DC is located at 2700 Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. SE, DC.

About The Humanities, Arts & Technology Festival at Gateway DC
Made possible through a grant awarded by the District’s Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), the FREE festival series will be held over two, amazing weekends in August and October of 2014.

The heart of the festival is located in the center of one of the District’s most prized historic campuses, St. Elizabeths East. The East campus is the home to Gateway DC, a park and pavilion that opened in September 2013. The Pavilion serves as a gateway to the St. Elizabeths East Innovation Hub and will usher in a new chapter of visitors to the campus, including local residents and the 3,700 U.S. Coast Guard employees. The Humanities, Arts & Technology Festival is the perfect platform to embrace the changes to the historic campus, while celebrating the District and Ward 8 communities’ rich heritage, culture and creativity. Festival events will kick-off on Saturday, August 2 at 1 p.m. The theme of this summer's festival is "Humanities, Arts & Technology at Work," and each day will include a fascinating, interactive display of the city's creative economy. Each date will feature an exciting scope of activities, live performances, art exhibits, readings and workshops, tech and food demonstrations, kid programming and other exciting activities that will be fun for the entire family. The festival series is presented by St. Elizabeths East, The Humanities Council of Washington, DC, THEARC, DMPED and Gateway DC.
