The Real Jay Mills
is a spoken word artist turned lyricist, and a native of Washington DC.
What
began as poetry has evolved into a musical career that shows no signs of
slowing. This self described "Raptivationist" has transcribed her life
into an addictive soundtrack that fans just can't get enough of. Each
song is a slice of life that touches the soul of every
listener. Her live performance is amplified by her live band, Sound of
the City. Together, they consistently bring an energy packed show that
is unforgettable.
Since her first EP was released in 2005, she has sold over 5,000 hard copies of her music independently. Her most recent project "Summer Madness" received over 30,000 downloads in its First week of release. The Real Jay Mills has performed at the Historic Lincoln Theater, and has opened for Kelis, Rah Diggah, Algebra Blessett, and Lola Monroe. She recently featured at The Fillmore in Silver Spring during the 7th annual DC Loves Dilla concert where she opened for Slum Village & Robert Glasper.
