"T.O.A.K"- Mr. Right Now

T.O.A.K (pronounced Toke), is a rapper/singer-songwriter from Baltimore, Md. Why the name "T.O.A.K" and what does it mean? It means Test Of A King, because everyday is a test of what he is becoming which is a king, with/through his music, experiences, and actions. Originally from Baltimore, Md., but, currently is in Pittsburgh, Pa., he still holds on to that Charm City mentality and reps that DMV everywhere he goes. Now, he has a smooth style like Drake, lyrical capabilities of a J. Cole, and reps the DMV like Wale. And all of this is attributed to his Nigerian background and all of the cities that he has lived.

Substantial - Resilient (Marcus D Remix)

Substantial "Home Is Where The Art Is" continues to grace speakers domestically and internationally after having gained critical acclaim a few months back.  Since releasing the Oddisee executive produced album, Substantial has done a quick tour with Diamond District emcee yU, dropped a few bonus tracks with Oddisee, Homeboy Sandman, and others, and even was invited to do an akapelah show at the Smithsonian in DC.

"Speak about it, Then I be about it."

For the album cut "Resilient" Substantial brings on Seattle producer and Bop Alloy partner Marcus D to provide a smoothed out, jazz infused remix.  The track, originally produced by Eric Lau, is a testament to the strength it takes to claim your identity and walk your own path.  The Marcus D jazz remix is a perfect fit for the reflective & uplifting declarations of Substantial

Washington DC's Prinz-D The First Deaf Rapper

Prinz-D resides in Washington, DC, and has received a fair bit of recognition lately, in both the deaf and hearing communities. His style has been compared to Pitbull, Flo Rida & T.I. What sets Prinz-D's work apart from other rappers is the fact that he was born deaf. This brings an unique artistic perspective to the rap genre.

Corcoran Gallery of Art "Pump Me Up" Exhibit to Feature Cool "Disco" Dan Documentary

From February 23–April 7, 2013 Pump Me Up: D.C. Subculture of the 1980s is the first exhibition to explore the thriving underground of Washington, D.C. during the 1980s, giving visual form to the raucous energy of graffiti, Go-Go music, and a world-renowned punk and hardcore scene.
The exhibition explores the visual culture of the “other D.C.,” demonstrating its place in the history of street art as well as that of America’s capital city. In the midst of notorious problems with drugs and corruption, D.C. gave birth to an infectious visual culture captured in the exhibition through Globe posters, graffiti, graphic art, archival photographs, and ephemera. Pump Me Up tells a local history from a local point of view—the graffiti historian Roger Gastman—while providing a framework for the contemporary surge of interest in street art and underground graphics.  In conjunction with the exhibit “The Legend of COOL ‘DISCO’ DAN,” a 90-minute documentary about the storied local graffiti writer, will be released in tandem with the exhibition. The film, produced in collaboration with Joseph Pattisall, is narrated by Henry Rollins and features interviews with Chuck Brown, civil rights advocate Walter Fauntroy, Marion Barry, and graffiti writers including GO-GO TONYA F and Dan himself.

The exhibition is coordinated by Sarah Newman, curator of contemporary art at the Corcoran. For more information, visit http://www.corcoran.org/exhibitions/pump-me-dc-subculture-1980s

Harmony Muzik Release Surprise Post-Valentine's Day EP, ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

http://t.co/2uysqPXL

(Washington, D.C)- Harmony Muzik releases Acceptance Speech: A Gift for Your Sidechick today as a special surprise for fans and supporters. While most artists flooded the masses with love-inspired music yesterday, capitalizing on the heartstrings of Valentine's Day, Team HM readied the MC's new EP for misguided hearts and mistresses. Inspired by last week's episode of ABC's hit television show Scandal, and the public outcry of "sidechicks" everywhere, HM delivers a clever 5-track compilation of previously released tracks and a brand new single, "Lay it Down" featuring DC's own Don Juan and DJ JButtah.

Acceptance Speech features singles from HM's past three projects, including "Love & Prozac" featuring Laelo, off her Gen X mixtape, "No Words" featuring PRO'Verb, and "Last Night" off her debut album The Masquerade, and "First Love Freestyle" from her critically acclaimed 2012 project, Conflict of Interest

HM reunites with DJ Ykcor, her long-time Official Mixtape and Tour DJ, for this project. The duo released several mixtapes between 2010 and early 2012, including Gen X, and the Law of the Few series. In anticipation of HM’s upcoming releases, the timing was perfect to reunite the chemistry of this power team for Acceptance Speech.  DJ Ykcor fully exhibits his world-renowned mixing skills, ingeniously incorporating acceptance speech drops from Sunday’s 55th Grammy Awards ceremony while HM flexes her versatility as an artist and MC

@keimlemarc - Young & Wreckless EP

How many MC's can you name that have came out of D.C. in the past 5 years? With the exception of Wale, the nation's capital has lacked in rap superstars poised for greatness.
In November of 2012, 20 year old rap artist Keim LeMarc released his debut project, an EP of 10 songs entitled Young & Wreckless, to a well received audience. Speaking on the struggles of growing up in inner city DC, LeMarc paints a vivid story that has never been told before. If you close your eyes and listen, you get a sense your right there with him in his day to day life. With fan favorites such as Freestyles On 12th St and Tasha's Story, it's no wonder why this EP is garnering the attention it is locally.
