DC Area Young Professionals are Invited to Drink for Dreams

DC Area Young Professionals are Invited to Drink for Dreams

Washington, DC- April 28, 2010- If empowering the most isolated children on earth is a goal for DC area young professionals, then attending “Drinks for Dreams,” a fundraiser sponsored by non-profit Dreams for Kids, DC, will be the best way for them to do so. District Lounge in Adams Morgan is the venue. Friday, May 7, 2010 is the night. Dozens of DC area young professionals are expected to gather from 6-10pm to enjoy an ingenious blend of hip hop, soul, funk and rock from DJ Jahsonic (of Marvin Mondays), live art from local artists, signature cocktails, and of course each other, all while raising funds for the implementation of the second DC area Dream Leaders conference scheduled to take place in June. Although the title is “Drinks for Dreams,” this is definitely NOT an event you want to sleep on.

Dreams for Kids empowers youth living in poverty and those with disabilities, by uniting them with their peers, recognizing their abilities, and allowing their voices to be heard. Through dynamic service oriented programming, the most isolated young people from every community are reminded they have something to give. While fearlessly pursing their dreams, Dreams for Kids youth are leading others and compassionately changing the world.

Dreams for Kids provides one principle program designed for youth empowerment: Dream Leaders. Through this program, greatly diverse youth are united with each other and given opportunities to serve others both domestically and abroad. At the core of the program is the empowerment of what amounts to 60 % of the children alive today - those living in poverty or with a disability throughout the world (1.2 billion.). The intention of the program is to remind each young person that they have something to give as well as giving them opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.

One hundred percent (100%) of the proceeds from “Drinks for Dreams” will go toward the next Dream Leaders conference in DC. Although this event is intended to raise funds, Dreams for Kids hopes that all of the attendees leave inspired to do more for their community. As past Dream Leader, Carrie articulates, “…to me being a Dream Leader means so much more than just raising money. In my eyes, it’s more about giving someone another person to talk to, giving them hope, and letting them know they CAN.”

Noya Merolin "Runnin 2: The Campaign"

Noya Merolin is taking on the DMV by storm this summer. Launching his new mixtape “Runnin 2: The Campaign”, Noya is the DMVs next unsigned hype! With his Single “Point Blank Period” already receiving support from the local hip hop community, this mixtape is sure to be a success!
Noya credits some of today’s biggest artists with their own originality as his biggest influence. Looking up to artists like Fabolous, The Dream, Tyga, Ryan Leslie and fellow DMV superstars Wale and Tabi Bonney; Noya is taking this opportunity to show everyone that originality is key in this game. From his unique approach to beats to his “non rapper” fashion statement, Noya will show everyone that being yourself can take you much further than being like someone else. This summer is one not to miss! Noya Merolin will be performing at many venues around the DMV and reaching out to support the community at local charity events as well. With a strong support team and outstanding ambition he is determined to shut down the city. The Campaign has begun and he is destined to win.

ArtLyfEnt Presents Playlist The DMV Vol. 2 Mixtape

ArtLyfEnt Presents Playlist The DMV Vol. 2. This is the second volume of the Playlist The DMV series. It features such DC, MD, & VA hiphop/rap music artists as Bear Witnez, K-Beta, Obii Say, Chris Barz, Muggsy Malone, Lola Maxwell, and many more. A couple of highlights of the mixtape come from the highly revealing track titled "Life of Crhyme" which takes the listener through a 7 minute 52 second view into the trials and tribulations of Virginia native K-Beta's life and Maryland's own neo-hip-hop duo DTMD (Dunc & Toine Makin' Dollas) with their track titled "Fantastic" which is reminiscent of the ol' school Hip-Hop sounds of the mid 80's to early 90's. Volume two works as an ode to the DMV, a revelation of some of the DMV's (DC, MD, & VA) music artists, and an audio representation of rappers thoughts on love and relationships. We at ArtLyfEnt hope you enjoy this mixtape and take notice of the artists whose music is on this project. It would be great if you could download and post this mixtape and promote it on your blog/site in any way possible. This is a product of the DMV, showcasing some of the finest rap/hip-hop artists the area has to offer.

SSDD 2 FROM BENJI

STEF - **MENACE TO SOBRIETY** 4/20 RELEASE

Peace everyone. I've been cultivating this masterpiece
for almost a year & the music you'll experience is the most diverse
& balanced project I've made thus far. The mixtape Menace To
Sobriety isn't just an homage to the beauty known as Mary Jane,
drinking, partying or whatever else might come to mind. The tape is a
musical soundtrack for a journey through my mind. Being a Menace To
Sobriety doesn't just mean, smoking trees or gettin' nice off the
liquor, it's bigger than that. We all have things we're addicted to,
whether it be clothes, cars, sneakers, music, working, reading, etc. I
believe that those things we love are those things that make us high,
high off life. To me, being sober doesn't just mean not being high or
drunk, it means accepting a mediocre state of mind, walking through life
like a zombie, never being able to enjoy life & fully see it for
what it is. Beautiful. Without further ado, I give to you MENACE TO
SOBRIETY.

Dimension Beats

Who is 17th Dimension Beats? He's from Clinton, MD. A rapper turned producer in 2006, he has handled beat making with such enormous passion. During the process of producing his former group Dead Poet's "In Loving Memory" in 2007, he left his home for Art Institute of Washington in Virginia, however things didn't last long and he ended up getting an associates degree at PG Community College. However 17th Dimension happens to thrive more on the artistic side of things rather than winning a popularity contest. He just wants to inspire anyone who's willing to give a listen. Most of his beats can be described as a mixed bag with influences such as go-go, the motown era, 80s party hip-hop and electro, 90s boom bap, and minimal elements of southern rap. He's currently working with Cinsere Logiq, Foreign English, JMS Hll, and Panama on their summer 2010 releases. He's had deals offered from 2 independent labels, however he chose to team with Soul Fusion Productions which is also a recording studio. With his first installment of beat tapes entitled the "Late Tape", he has gotten positive feedback and will also be returning in a slew of up and coming beat battles in D.C, Baltimore and Virginia.

Noraa - Mirage

Coming out of Maryland, 19 year old Hip-Hop artist Noraa is the newest addition to the up and coming DMV movement. Born in Philadelphia, Noraa’s family moved around a lot but soon settled in Howard County, Maryland. Growing up Noraa found him self with a family and group of friends who had a love for music. Soon enough he decided he would take his own try at the art, and create something others would enjoy. With years of practice and development as an artist, Noraa was able to create a style that he is comfortable with. His music has been described as smooth and laid back with truthful but poppy lyrics. The description of his music is truly a reflection of his personality. Noraa has once said, “Music should reflect who you, what you have been through, and how you feel. I believe life should be enjoyed to the fullest, so every experience I go through ends up being a positive. You truly get that feeling when you listen to my music”. With that mentality Noraa has been able to showcase his passion and work with many great artists such as Young Scrap, Future Sounds, and Zee of Pre Historic. Recently Noraa has released his first Instrumental mix tape titled “My Girls Ep”, with every track being named after a female. He is currently working on songs for his up and coming mix tape and new demo. Now with new projects, confidence, and a talented team to work with, Noraa is on a path to breakthrough.
